Service Bartender & Host Combo

We are currently staffed for this position, but welcome you reading our description for any future needs regarding the dual role of Service Bartender/Host

When acting as host, this key position is the first impression of Flying Mango. Great customer rapport is imperative. Host is key to the flow of the dining rooms.  We are a fast-paced working environment and being attentive to guests’ needs is top priority. Strong conversational skills are critical for engaging with our guests. The HOST MUST be able to handle several things at once.

Because Flying Mango, does not have a separate lounge, our Bartending position would be thought of as more of a ‘service’ bartender position. Guests are not seated directly in front of you, yet you would engage with guests waiting if they wanted a drink. Experienced coffeeshop baristas typically transition well into this position.

Personal cleanliness is expected. Ideal candidate will have an eye for detail, be organized, have common sense, remain calm under pressure and only be content in an incredibly clean workspace. Our online reputation on customer review sites is very favorable. Team member should be proud to be a part of seeing those comments continue. 

Skills:

  • Hospitality Experience NOT required, but a plus.
  • Bartending Experience NOT required, but a plus.  Barista experience is a plus.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age, 21 plus years even better.
  • Wine, craft beer, liquor knowledge a plus, or desire to learn more on these topics. 
  • Follow bar recipe specifications, have artful eye for presentation.
  • Cash Drawer management.

We are currently fully staffed in the Server ranks. We do turn to any applications on file when we have a need, so go ahead and complete the application if you are interested in being a mango in the future.

This CAN be TWO CULINARY STUDENTS seeking two shifts each IF we can find an appropriate pair.

·Must have professional kitchen experience. Be comfortable working the various stations of sauté, grill, salad, prep. Day prep cooks will be trained to our specifications of smoking meat on our custom smoker outside.

·Have ServSafe Food Manager Certification – or willingness to pass this exam within 6 weeks of hire.

·Culinary Training is favored.

·Have strong oral and written communication skills. 

·Be able to stand and walk for up to 10 hours a day.

·Be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

·Be able to exert fast-paced mobility for periods up to 6 hrs in length.

·Be able to work within these types of conditions: wet floors, temperature extremes, noise.

·Be able to work calmly and effectively under pressure.


COMPENSATION and HOURS

·Compensation is entirely dependent on your breadth and number of years of experience. Generally, STARTING wage ranges $16 - $18/hr. ON TOP OF THIS FIGURE, the “Back-of-House” teams shares in a pool of tips coming from TakeOut orders. 
This variable amount averages
•in the $1.50-2.50/hr. range.

·Expected hours range from 20-25 hours, dependent on your availability at hire.  Be at your station at 4:00.

·Workweek is currently Wednesday through Saturday evenings. Some additional hours may be required on 'off' days for special events. Dining Room opens to guests at 5:00. Guests are seated until 9:00 on weeknights and 9:30 on weekends. 

·Annual Summer Staff Vacation Paid Week Off.  This benefit is contingent on length of employment and hours of weekly work. Workers (4-5 days/wk exceeding 27 hrs/wk) receive paid week during the week of July 4th. Details provided on hire.

Dishwasher

Flying Mango needs a detailed, clean-working DISHWASHER - the hero of a restaurant family.

Currently staffed.

Our restaurant has been around forever, indicating stability. We have some employees that have been with us almost 20 years, so we must be okay to work for. A previous Dish Employee was with us 17 years! We imagine that to be a record in the Dishwashing world.

We are a well-established, stable and locally owned restaurant, looking to add one OR two Part- Time member(s) to the team. Unlike many traditional restaurant kitchens, this fast-paced working environment is totally open to the guests' view. Our unique set up does mean you will walk through the same spaces as our appreciative guests for aspects of your job.

No specific hospitality experience  is required. Previous work skills showing cleanliness and organization are important. Must play well with others.

Workweek is currently Wednesday through Saturday evenings. Service begins at 5:00. Dishwasher needs to be clocked in by 5:00, 4:30 - 4:45 is also accepted. Workers (working 4-5 days/wk exceeding 27 hrs/wk) receive paid week during Annual Summer Staff Vacation after a year.

Compensation is entirely dependent on your experience and is competitive in the metro. DISHWASHERS ALSO receive tips from online and in house takeout orders, as part of the "Back Of House Kitchen" Team.

Duties:

- Wash dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, and pans using dishwasher or by hand

- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dishwashing area

- Sort and stack clean dishes for easy access by kitchen staff

- Remove dirty pots/pans from the cooks’ line

- Remove bus tubs from server station

- Empty and clean garbage cans in the dish & kitchen

- Sweep and mop dish & kitchen floors when needed

- Break down and clean dish machine on a daily basis

- Clean dish table, over and under shelf

- Keep glass racks and dish racks clean and organized

- Maintain cleanliness of dish room  walls and shelves and cleanliness of overall dish room

- Break down boxes before putting in the dumpster

- Keep dumpster & smoker area clean 

- Maintain a clean uniform throughout the shift

- Follow proper sanitation procedures and health code regulations

- Follow company and equipment standards

- Collaborate with kitchen & dining room staff to ensure efficient workflow and timely service

- Ensure pathways (inside & outside) are clean and safe for guests

- May perform other duties as assigned


Skills:

- Previous experience in a culinary or food service environment would be great, but not required

- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously

- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain cleanliness standards

- Good communication skills and ability to work well within a team

- Physical stamina to stand for long periods of time and lift heavy objects if necessary

At our restaurant, we value teamwork, cleanliness, and efficiency. As a Dishwasher, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that our kitchen operates smoothly. You will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness in the dishwashing area, and following proper sanitation procedures. This position requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work well under pressure.

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred. No experience required. If still attending high school, must be 16 years old.

Skills:

Ability to communicate verbally with other kitchen staff in fast-paced environment; ability to frequently use hands and fingers to feel, pull, push, and lift; ability to stand for long periods of time and frequently lift up to 50 lbs; auditory and visual skills; ability to follow instructions and procedures.

POSITION CAN BE FILLED BY ONE PERSON who is Available (currently) WEDNESDAY through SATURDAY evening service for all 4 shifts.

ALTERNATELY,  IF AVAILABLE FOR TWO SHIFTS - AND we can find another 2-shift applicant, we will entertain hiring 2 people to share this position.

As the Dishwasher, you will play a vital role at the restaurant. Generally, starting wage is $15 PLUS tips from Takeout orders.
